The NCC is an organisation which run through the Ministry of Defence with the Defence Secretary at the helm. It is the Indian military cadet corps with its headquarters at New Delhi. After independence, the present day NCC came into existence on 16 Apr 1948, through XXXI Act of Parliament. NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 Jul 1948.
NCC is a voluntary organization, which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and Universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The main purpose of NCC ais to provide military training to students, inculcating in their minds the twin ideals of duty and discipline. NCC plays an essential role in shaping the character of students by instilling the values of patriotism, service, discipline and hard work and transformation them from ordinary individuals into responsible, patriotic citizens.
The NCC unit of Newman College is an elite category comprising of select number of young cadets with specific skill sets.

The NCC Unit of Newman College, Thodupuzha, started in 1965.
Newman Unit has strength of 108 cadets and they are active in all camps organized in the state and National Level. Every year our Cadets attend annual training camp, National Integration camp, trekking camp and they come back in flying colours. The cadets successfully complete ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examinations during the academic year.
The cadets are given basic military trainings; Discipline, Patriotism and Unity is instilled in them. They had made many achievements in Republic Day Camps, Tal Sainik Camps, Mavlankar Camps, and National Integration camps.

NCC bagged District level FIRST Position in Swatch Bharat Summer Internship Awards instituted by Ministry of Youth and Sports.

During the flood of 2018 we could see the misery of Kuttanad.Cadets visited the relief center at Carmel Engineering College in Punnapra and supplied around more than 30 loads
We had also done activities such as food distribution, removing obstacles, post-flood relief services etc.
Newman NCC cadets had also contributed and become fame even being a needful hands for other states. lt's best example was helping Gaja Cyclone affected people in Tamilnadu. We have supplied food and other needy items to the people in the affected area
