NCC

The NCC is an organisation which run through the Ministry of Defence with the Defence Secretary at the helm. It is the Indian military cadet corps with its headquarters at New Delhi. After independence, the present day NCC came into existence on 16 Apr 1948, through XXXI Act of Parliament. NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 Jul 1948.

 

NCC is a voluntary organization, which recruits cadets from high schools, colleges and Universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The main purpose of NCC ais to provide military training to students, inculcating in their minds the twin ideals of duty and discipline. NCC plays an essential role in shaping the character of students by instilling the values of patriotism, service, discipline and hard work and transformation them from ordinary individuals into responsible, patriotic citizens.

The NCC unit of Newman College is an elite category comprising of select number of young cadets with specific skill sets.

The NCC Unit of Newman College, Thodupuzha, started in 1965.

Newman Unit has strength of 108 cadets and they are active in all camps organized in the state and National Level. Every year our Cadets attend annual training camp, National Integration camp, trekking camp and they come back in flying colours. The cadets successfully complete ‘B’ and ‘C’ certificate examinations during the academic year.

The cadets are given basic military trainings; Discipline, Patriotism and Unity is instilled in them. They had made many achievements in Republic Day Camps, Tal Sainik Camps, Mavlankar Camps, and National Integration camps.

NEWMAN NCC was the best NCC unit of Kerala & Lakshadweep Directorate for two times(2018&2019)

NCC bagged District level FIRST Position in Swatch Bharat Summer Internship Awards instituted by Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Achievements and Highlights

2021-22

  • The Share A Bread - Midday Meals Project -- Newman College initiates the Share a Bread project, which is co-organized by the auspicious college community under the leadership of the NCC. Hundreds of food parcels are collected daily under the scheme from the community consisting of students, teachers and non-teaching staffs.  The main activity of the project is to deliver the food parcels collected under the leadership of the cadets to the Divyarakshalayam for the rehabilitation of the marginalized who are mentally ill.

2020-21

  • As part of the Share a Bread Programme on 23/10/2021 the house built under the supervision of Newman NCC unit was inaugurated and handed over to Eldhose and his family. The function was prescribed by NCC Kottayam Group Commader Brig. Narendranath Sajan.
  • Newman College NCC Unit has actively worked for covid 19 prevention.Unit take initiative and organised many programmes.We have took initiative to setup Quarantine facilities and other preventive activities.

 

2019-20

  • Newman College NCC Unit have received the best NCC institution award on 2019-2020 from K T Jaleel, former educational minister of kerala.We organized variety of programs and activities in connection with different special days and occasions. All these activities made Newman NCC unit to be unique from other NCC units.
  • Ma Thuje Salam Program With Janam TV - It was an unforgettable event when Newman College NCC Band team and Guard of Honour team had got an opportunity to respect some of the great personalities of Indian Defence. We had given the band and guard reception for many dignitaries including Lt. Col. Mohanlal ,his presence was really inspiring and motivating. He is a person with acting talents  even though we may feel proud when he talks about the deadly struggles that the soldiers need to fought on battle fields.Our heart filled with proud and patriotism when interacted with the real heroes of India followed by Subedar Major Yogendra Singh Yadav, Subedar Sanjay Kumar(Param Vir Chakra) Subedar MV Gopalakrishnan, Hav. Abdul Rahman Kunju (Vir Chakra)Air Commander B S Krishnakumar, Commander Abhilash Tomy(Kirti Chakra) Lt. Col. Ravindranadthan M, K Balakrishnan, Capt. P Rajkumar (Shaurya Chakra).

 

2018-19

  • YUVA HARITHA BHUMI - Newman College NCC conducted an  initiative for an agricultural venture namely 'YUVA HARITHA BHUMI' in our college campus. For this we cleaned 1.5 Acre of land which was a heap of waste materials. Our aim is to create an awareness about cleanliness and also promote the agricultural activities among the youth. This helps the cadets to be socially responsible and trains them for the future upliftment of the country.
  • One of the main flagship programs of Newman NCC is the adoption of 5th Ward of Kumaramangalam Gramapanchayath which led towards the declaration of that particular area into plastic free by the Block Panchayat President .To make over the program into a successful one we have conducted Swatch Bharath Abhiyan Rallies, Plastic Irradication mission and Awareness programmes based on the subject Clean India.Swatch Bharath Survey,  Construction of Compost Pit and Awareness Seminar are the other prominent activities that have conducted in connection with this program.
  • Newman College NCC unit always opens a needful hands who really struggles in their life. We always took the lead to help people especially during flood relief activities. Through all these ways we truly make ourselves socially responsible and committed ones. Among our works most appreciated activities are

During the flood of 2018 we could see the misery of Kuttanad.Cadets visited the relief center at Carmel Engineering         College in Punnapra and supplied around more than 30 loads

We had also done activities such as food distribution, removing obstacles, post-flood relief services etc.

Newman NCC cadets had also contributed and become fame even being a needful hands for other states. lt's                  best example was  helping Gaja Cyclone affected people in Tamilnadu. We have supplied food and other needy              items to the people in the affected area

 

2017-18

  • Guard of honour given to DG NCC - Newman College NCC unit got a privilege to achieve recognition from most respected Lt. Gen Vinod Vashisht,Director General of NCC for giving Guard of honour and prove the real talents of cadets with rifle parade. It's a most memorable moment for the Newman NCC unit for receiving  compliment from a such a dignitary.
