Newman College, one of the premier institutions of education and research in Thodupuzha is the
first higher education institution of Idukki district established in the year 1964, affiliated to
Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Newman College has a long history of imparting quality
education to the economically weaker sectors of rural and tribal community of Idukki district and
has now become a hub of globally competent education centre. The college offers an efficacious
and diverse platform for pursuing higher education in fifteen undergraduate, eight postgraduate
and three doctoral degree programmes in addition to various recognised add-on, diploma and
certificate course programmes.
The college is recognised by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12 (b) and is reaccredited by the
NAAC with ‘A’ grade in two consecutive terms, 2007 and 2016. Considering the consistent
quality, the college is selected as/for ‘Mentor institute under UGC Paramarsh scheme’, DBT
Star College by DBT, Govt. of India; RUSA support; UGC STRIDE programme; DST FIST and
KSCSTE SARD in addition to other financial support by various funding agencies. The campus
and its related student amenities, spread over a total land area of 26 acres, has extension facilities
like Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) study centre offering a variety of
academic programmes at the UG and PG levels.
The college is also an eligible recipient of financial support from Govt. of Kerala for various life
skill enhancement and quality assurance programmes like Additional Skill Acquisition
Programme (ASAP), Walk With the Scholar (WWS), and Scholar Support Programme (SSP).
The compact infrastructure of Newman College with well-maintained and easily accessible
digitally enabled library, University Study centre, IGNOU study centre, hostel facility, computer
labs, eight seminar halls, theatre, video centre, indoor stadium, outdoor stadium, basketball court,
